ExceptionHierarchy.pngI am the IronRuby tester at Microsoft. I make sure all changes to the project get adequate testing. Right now that pretty much means learning the project and learning how we test it currently.

Curt Hagenlocher

I'm a dev on IronPython and IronRuby.  Right now, I'm working on CLR integration for IronRuby.

John Lam

ExceptionHierarchy.pngI run the IronRuby project at Microsoft. I'm a Program Manager, which is a tough role to describe at the company. Some days I write code. Some days I interact with teams from around the company. Some days I think about what our longer term strategy is here at the company. Some days I deal with management. Some days I do all of the above :)

Tomas Matousek

I'm a dev on IronRuby, so if something doesn't work it's my fault.

I'm the guy to initially blame for Silverlight integration, but now that's Jimmy's problem. I'm also the guy to initially blame for the YAML port, but now that's Oleg's problem. Now I'm a DLR dev.

Jimmy Schementi

ExceptionHierarchy.pngI'm the guy to blame for everything IronRuby + Silverlight related. But most likely it's Tomas's fault.

Oleg Tkachenko

I'm another dev on IronRuby. I'm working on libraries and also will be the person to blame for Visual Studio integration. Still if something doesn't work it's Tomas's fault :)

ExceptionHierarchy.pngWorking as a software architect at www.napa.fi, I am responsible for transforming the GUI of our Ship Design SW to use WPF as the GUI framework and IronRuby for the event handling code. We have a 1 mloc codebase of existing event handlers written in custom in-house scripting language operating on existing X/Motif GUI. I am proceeding in the challenging task of developing transformation rules (implemented in XSLT/ANTLR/Mathematica) and necessary framework code (implemented in C# / IronRuby) for converting our Motif/Script to WPF/XAML/IronRuby. There has been success in this, with some limited parts of our GUI working after the transformation.

Because of the integration IronRuby to CLR / C# / WPF blocks in our application, we are especially interested in interoperability issues, i.e. calling IronRuby from C# in addition of vice versa. We understand that this is not a priority for IronRuby team (at least compared to "running Rails") and we have developed work-arounds to be able to proceed with the current limited set of interoperability. Because of the complexity of our system we are also very interested in furthering the status of IronRuby debugging support.

Contributing to the IronRuby development is not a primary interest to our company. However, because of the complexity of our codebase, we have been hitting various bugs and missing features in IronRuby and we are happy to report those in the bug-tracker in order to get them fixed with a higher priority. When facing bugs and missing features that are not yet fixed, our normal work-around is to implement custom ruby-code (or C# code) as a work-around. I do not rule out possibility of contributing some patches in future as well :-)

Ivan Porto Carrero

ExceptionHierarchy.pngI'm a freelance developer on both the .NET and Ruby platform and am currently writing a book on IronRuby for Manning. I'm interested in IronRuby because it will enable me to merge my knowledge on both platforms. As far as contributing goes, I've been pretty slack but that might change because now I'm getting into the more .NET centric parts of my book. I'll fix or workaround whatever I need to get the code samples for my chapters working properly. So far my approach is very similar to Robert Brotherus one whilst trying to avoid dropping down to C# as much as I can.

Because I also need to pay the bills etc I spend more time on client work than I would like and can only work on IronRuby and my book when there is no deadline rapidly approaching and on certain days that I specifically put aside for this.

I'm an academic, teaching and researching within the Faculty of Information Technology at the Queensland University of Technology, Australia. My research interests include compiler development and tools for parallel computing. My teaching interests include web development and service oriented architecture. I co-founded and lead the Ruby.NET project. Since abandoning that project, I've joined the IronRuby? project as an external contributor and am currently trying to drive the process of getting Rails to run on IronRuby?. After that I'm interested at looking at performance, both for IronRuby? and other Ruby implementations.

My short term goal is to get gems setup.rb to execute correctly. I'm trying to identify the issues that are currently preventing this from happening and to so provide developers with a steady stream of prioritized bug reports. I'll fix what bugs I can, but some of them require deeper knowledge of the IronRuby? internals than I currently have - so I'll leave those ones.

I am a web and desktop GIS developer for a large utility company. I like to dabble a bit in framework development but mostly I love learning new technologies. I also like to play on the fringes of language development; IronRuby and F# are my top choices for .NET development.

ExceptionHierarchy.png You can't blame me for anything yet.  I'm providing a host on which the Mono builds are being performed.  But Michael Letterle is responsible for all of the real effort.

There seems to be a bug to add an image. So here is the process if you want to add your own image.

  • Goto http://www.ironruby.net/About/People.
  • Edit Page
  • Click on the “Insert image” button in the toolbar at the top. This will pop up a dialog box.
  • If you add a URL on the textbox at the top, the “Insert Image” button is still not enabled. Looks like a bug. So…
  • Click on the “Browse” tab
  • Click on the blue “Up a level” button on the left side twice. You should see “Documentation” as one of the entries in the list of folders. Click it once
  • Then click “CLR Interop” and then “Specification”.
  • Select ExceptionHierarchy.png. This will populate the textbox at the top with “/@api/deki/files/6/=ExceptionHierarchy.png”, and enable the “Insert Image” button at the bottom. Finally!
  • At this point, you can switch back to the “Search” tab, and a link to a photo (hosted somewhere else) in place of “/@api/deki/files/6/=ExceptionHierarchy.png”.
  • Select the middle alignment option (flowing text to the right of the image).
  • The “Size” option is not enabled. Again, looks like a bug.
  • Click “Insert Image”
  • Manually resize the huge image size that is inserted to a smaller size.
  • Save Page
